Summary/Abstract: English idioms and sayings are frequently used not only in written English but also in spoken English. Learning idioms is a way of enriching one's vocabulary, the different meaning connected with them being often surprising. Among English idioms, the idioms and sayings related to eating and drinking are abundant. Many of the colourful phrases in English relate to eating and drinking. We often say that we are what we eat. It is a good thing to eat and drink but, moreover, talking about it is even more pleasant. Our article is focused on this particular domain of the English phraseology, since eating and drinking have always been a rich source of idioms and proverbs.
