The expression of eating disorders in the fashion world – some peculiarities, critical and controversial issues

Summary/Abstract: Modern civilization has a great impact on our lives and this includes our health. While the development of medical sciences has been spectacular, especially if we consider the advances in technology, the rate of civilization’s illnesses is higher. If the main indicator of a society’s health status is life expectancy at birth, then we will live to an increasingly greater age. At the same time, health risks have escalated in many respects; therefore, we cannot be satisfied with improvements on a global scale. In this paper our aim is to examine the current state of the art about eating disorders in fashion world, on the hypothesis of the different risk and prevalence of eating disorders and body image concerns in models.
