Summary/Abstract: The mask is claimed from an „aesthetic of the mystery” as well as from the pure art of art.It is the result of the “aesthetic autocracy” (Mircea Muthu) that generates the disturbing visions of Mateiu Caragiale. The mask is, in this sense, an indication of a fragile sensitivity, which recognizes its lack of mobility and the inability of the land to adapt to reality, committing itself to an overcoming of the concrete through the use of ornament. In the morphology of the mask enters, in different measures, refinement, aestheticizing sense, hedonistic reverie and melancholy. Frustrated by the senses of participating in the spectacle of the world, the mask represents for Mateiu I. Caragiale a subtle secretion of his contemplative and aestheticizing spirit.
