Summary/Abstract: This article deals with some pressing contemporary issues. It starts with reviewing some of the writings that explore the beauty of nature and simple living, then broadens its scope and shows that the second half of the 20th century brought a change in interest and focus and the exploration of the environment, whether from a literary or critical perspective, took forms which were telling of the consequences of human action upon it.
