Summary/Abstract: The reign of Michael the Brave had a special significance for the history of the Romanian people, especially under two aspects: gaining independence under Ottoman rule and political unification of the three Romanian countries. The prince sensed and understood that in the sixteenth century in Europe there were multiple prefaces which the Romanians had to take into account. The facts of the voivode were recorded by the historiographers of the time, Romanian or foreign, in this regard enjoying the richest literature, but not keeping an internal chronicle of that time independently. In this paper we propose to analyze the perception of the voivodship's personality from various historiographical sources, comparing views on the events in which Michael the Brave was directly or indirectly involved.
