Summary/Abstract: The basis of the idea and the normative aspect of the price of education reached by self-management agreements has been established by the relative documents and systemic laws of the legal and political superstructure of socialist and self-government Yugoslavia. In that respect, there has been an attempt to scientifically formulate its economic functions and internal structure. In order to achieve this, the theoretical model of analysis with several methodologically necessary premises has been simplified. First of all, the basis of analysis is the macro-economic aspect of scientific and educational activity, which is observed independently of the role of other sector of social activities in respect of the general social development, in order to make the actual contribution of education to the creation of new values, increase of gross national income and the increase of social productivity (of work) more objective. Besides that, it is assumed that there is a unity, organic linking together and also a functional causality of the process of production and the process of education. Its basis are the fact reached by experience that educational activities have the peculiarities of production and that education constitutes an integral part of material production. Finally, for an objective evaluation of scientific and educational activities, it is reckoned with the effects of economic laws as well as the existence of appropriate scientific methods of quantification of its contribution to the creation and increase of gross national income. On the basis of given premises, the economic nature of the cost of education reached by self-management agreements has been defined, theoretically expressing the basic characteristics of the relations through which income is earned by free exchange of labour (work).
