Summary/Abstract: T.S. Eliot postulated that culture may be regarded as that which makes life worth living. I would like to enhance this definition by claiming that Romanian literature is that luxury without which we cannot live. I recalled this definition as I pondered the question whether Europeans really need Old Romanian literature. Can they not live without it? The obvious answer is, of course, that they can. But why not strive for a better and richer life? Why not open oneself to a rich, yet unknown culture and territory? And why can’t the teacher as a Christian educator take by the hand and lead them to this culturally rich and fascinating land, this land with all its joys and sorrows? The article structure refers to: 1. The book’s power: the significance of the Romanian printings in the European context 2. The importance of knowing the significance of the religious books titles as a mediation practice for a multireligious and multicultural education. 3. Literature and religion in a single book or about the evolution of the Romanian printing houses in the XVI-th century (I) Literature is the best means by which to present uniqueness, but also the best means to bridge divergences. Only by learning more about the distinctiveness of Romanian literature will Europeans be able to approach Romanians and their culture with a new heart.
