Summary/Abstract: In the course of human evolution, violence has always been an integral part of individual and collective human behavior. From their beginnings, human communities aimed to seek and seize new territories, which they could only obtain through premeditated conflicts and the violent forcing of native populations into submission. Throughout history, violent conflicts between communities have been driven by the acquisition of new territories and their related resources. The status of the victor allowed the vanquished (men, women and children) to be subjected to numerous acts of violence and atrocities, up to their mass murder. Currently, such acts constitute international crimes, which must be investigated to prevent impunity. This paper aims to highlight the many difficulties that exist before the competent authorities to investigate international crimes, an aspect on which the prevention of impunity really depends, in the sense that persons suspected of being the subject of criminal liability are prosecuted, tried and convicted to the punishments corresponding to the committed acts.
