Summary/Abstract: In the 1970s a new form of artistic tapestry emerged as the primary form of figurative expression in Latvian textile art, introducing thematic narrative and pictorial imagery. The theme of nature dominated Latvian textile art from 1970–80; however, these works were not considered landscapes. These textiles were classified under the general designation “images of nature,” accentuating the decorative components. The article aims to identify landscape in woven textiles using an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on an artist’s sensory experience and medium-specific expression. A survey of the textile works of artists Rūdolfs Heimrāts, Aija Baumane, Edīte Pauls-Vīgnere, Dzintra Vilks, and Zinta Beimane through the field notes method is applied to identify the landscape motif. Also, the landscape is explained and substantiated, introducing human geography theories on the perception of the place and the individual’s relationship with it. The study has been conducted using formal and iconographic analysis of visual sources, analysis of written sources, biographical research method, semi-structured interviews, and autoethnography.
