Summary/Abstract: The dance of Salome constituted a source of inspiration for writers and artists since the biblical representation into the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, reaching its peak point in the nineteenth century, together with the development of the decadence. This myth of Salome has a multitude of representations in the visual (Gustave Moreau, Aubrey Beardsley), written (Gustave Flaubert, Oscar Wilde) and also musical arts (Jules Massenet, Richard Strauss), which emphasises the diversity and creative power that the biblical figure exerted over the decades.
