Summary/Abstract: The paper begins with a brief presentation of Cnaeus Manlius Vulso‘s career and his campaign in Galatia in 189 BC, then focuses on the first part of the battle exhortation he addressed to his men before the campaign. The speech is a fictional construction created by Titus Livius and at least its first half is composed by a series of most common tñpoi for this kind of exhortation.
