Summary/Abstract: The systematic research of lithic raw materials in Hungarian archaeology only started in the 1970s. From the beginning, this research was characterized by the provenance approach. From the 1990s, the focus shifted to archaeometric studies. In international research, on the other hand, the reconstruction of technical behavior also came into focus. By using the palaeoethnological approach, the behavior of prehistoric human groups in the procurement and use of raw materials can be investigated in a complex manner. The article reviews the theoretical and methodological foundations of these analyses.
