Summary/Abstract: The author describes her experiences as a volunteer teaching Polish to a group offemale refugees from Ukraine from April to June 2022. The participants asked questionsthat revealed issues of adaptation in Poland, showed the closeness or difference inthe linguistic images of the world, and also activated the perspective of culturalcomparativism. The method of participant observation allowed the author to provide amulti-faceted look at the difficulties of adapting to life in another country.
