Summary/Abstract: This essay explores the clothing symbol of the pearl as a metaphor for the symbiosis between creation and its creator and also the distinction between the two occurences of visual perception: the intentional one-to see and the unintentional -to look. Hence the painting by Johannes Vermeer -The girl with the Pearl Earring, the novel with the same name written by Tracy Chevalier and also its screening made by Peter Webber, the analysis regards the dance of glances and role of the pearl in the essentialization of creative feminity.
