Summary/Abstract: The present article represents a review of what vocational training means in general, insisting on differences in initial and continuing vocational training, with emphasis on the effectiveness of vocational training programs. Active labor market measures are on the one hand intended for individuals to provide additional insurance against the risk of income loss, and on the other hand they are offered to people not to lose their labor market potential during unemployment periods and to provide incentives for the job seekers in order to reassume their activity. Vocational training programs are best suited to improve outcomes on the long-term and they address structural labor market mismatch between people's skills and employers' demand. Generations that start to work now need to consider the changes on the labor market that will occur in the future, with the possibility to change more jobs during their active life, meaning that part of the education mentioned will, of course, consist, in "learn how to learn" throughout their life. Reintegration measures on the labor market, respectively the active labor market policies, help transform obsolete skills into appreciated hiring skills. Thus, we have to remember that what we invest in education in the present can be helpful in the future in accessing the labor market.
