Summary/Abstract: Starting from the great variety of definitions the phenomenon of ellypsis has and its different names and interpretations, it is reasonable to make a few points and try to establish some clear delimitations regarding this phenomenon in the case of certain anthroponyms. The aim of this research paper is to observe the semantic effects of anthroponyms generated by ellypsis. The study is going to be pursued from a semantic, pragmatic and social-cultural point of view. The tendency of the language to "economise", also known as the principle of minimal effort, is one that rules the dynamics of the language. The use of lexical-semantic condensation is easily noted in the field of proper names, by using abbreviations of the names, thus producing in the case of certain anthroponys certain changes in meaning. The phenomenon causes a difference both in terms of meaning and form between the original denomination and the ellyptical one. This lexical-semantic reduction, through various ways of reducing sounds, leads to the transformation of some of the anthroponyms analysed in denominating expressions imposed through naming traditions in hypocoristics. The corpus will be made up of a survey applied to a number of 100 subjects varying in sex, age and profession.
