Summary/Abstract: The study is a part of a more comprehensive research on the Romanian cultural manifestations of the Phanariot era. Focused on the literary field, the paper deals with aspects such as: the significance of books in the native society under the Phanariots, the print stage, what type of books people read and their favorite readings. Particular attention is paid to the phenomenon of the production of texts assimilated as fiction, which take place in the Romanian area. The extent to which literary life can be discussed between 1711 and 1821, the institutionalization of writing or the existence of generations of writers, the preference for the literary species of text-editors, as well as the aesthetic orientations of their works are some of the elements that make up the analyzed subject.
