Summary/Abstract: Like all the masterpieces of the world, Celestina possesses an undeniable power to surprise and confuse the reader even over half a century after its publication. This paper aims to show that the book in question owes this profound, resounding resonance to the fact that its author knew how to capture a culminating historical moment and to respond to it by another human and artistic culmination: creating a new vision of man and inventing new ways of expressing it.
