Summary/Abstract: Company’s competitiveness is a result of many mechanisms and factors both internal, existing in a company, and external, existing in a company’s surrounding. According to the assumptions, the mechanisms of the European Union common market, such as: the freedom of products, people, services and capital flow, or the competition policy are beneficial for the competitive edge of the enterprises. However, in practice such mechanisms not always work according to the assumptions, and there are certain limitations in their functioning. The free movement of goods in the single market— as it seems — is most fully realized. In practice, there can be no complete, real freedom to provide services, especially in the new Member States. Barriers that prevent or slow down the development of services between Member States hinder the construction of a competitive market, and this in turn weakens economic growth of countries. It also seems that would be the reform of EU competition policy, especially in dealing with the excessive concentration of business, or control its calls. It would also continue its efforts to de-monopolize the surviving companies — public service monopolies, and improve the competitiveness of companies operating in these sectors.
