Summary/Abstract: Regarding the recent financial situation in Europe and the world, a couple of last years have been a time of difficult and demanding far-reaching sacrifices. Particularly Southern European countries have been suffering the severe consequences of national economies’ low competitiveness. They are led by the inefficient Greek economy and the fragile economic situation of Italy. The purpose of this dissertation is to examine whether, in the face of growing “euro-pressure” on the government in Rome, the third European economy did the homework inflicted on structural reforms. A key part of the work involves discussing trends in regulatory changes that took place in Italy in the years immediately preceding the crisis, and during its lifetime. On the basis of World Bank’s report Doing Business in the years 2005-2013, the author elaborates on reforms facilitating doing business in this country.
