Summary/Abstract: Social media has become an increasingly important tool for local public administration in Romania to communicate with citizen and other stakeholders. Local governments can use social media to inform citizens about events, programs, and services, connect with citizens on various issues, and collect feedback and input from citizens in order to improve public services. By engaging in social media, local public administrations can promote openness and transparency and build trust and relationships with those they serve. Studies have shown that there is a growing use of social media for local public administration in Romania. In a study conducted in 2018, it was found that nearly 80% of Romanian municipalities used Facebook as a primary social media platform for communication. This is an increase from 2017, when only 65% of municipalities used Facebook. The study also showed that Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn are also used by local public administrations, but to a lesser extent than Facebook. The research also revealed that while local public administrations use social media to reach out to citizens and disseminate information, they are not using it to the fullest potential. The study found that only 3% of surveyed local governments used social media to actively engage with citizens and involve them in decision-making processes. To improve the use of social media for local public administration in Romania, it is important for local governments to prioritize this type of communication. They should also make an effort to engage citizens and involve them in decision-making processes. Additionally, local public administrations should work to ensure that their social media content is user-friendly, accessible, and engaging. Furthermore, local governments should establish clear policies and guidelines on the proper use of social media, which could help to ensure the accuracy and quality of content disseminated through these platforms.
