Summary/Abstract: The motif of thread and the related activities of weaving, spinning, sewing are of great importance in the Jewish culture It also plays an important role in the recent Polish children’s literature devoted to the subject of the Holocaust. Knitting Jewish women are reminiscent of ancient Parkas, the thread is often the symbol of the bond that ties the protagonists; it shows the way of escape and constitutes the matter which can be changed, repeating the creative gesture of God. Above all, it is the metaphor of memory – a story of the past which introduces its plot into the collective consciousness.
