Summary/Abstract: Informal care in Romania is one of the most important pillars of the long-term care system. In rural communities, it is a traditional norm to take care of the elderly by a family member. Most informal careers provide care for moral and emotional reasons. But financial difficulties, the risk of losing a job, health problems arising from physical and mental fatigue, social isolation have a strong impact on the sustainability of this activity in the absence of support measures. Although the need for support for informal careers in rural areas is real and justified, social services to support informal care are not in demand, missing or underdeveloped.
