Summary/Abstract: The social value of freedom has concerned people since ancient times, and it can be seen that thinkers were concerned with this subject. During Antiquity and the Middle Ages, religion played an important role in defining how man related to freedom. The perpetrators of crimes against freedom present particularities that we do not find in the case of other criminals, although the discussions about free will are also valid in their case. Greater control of members of society is not a solution to better protect the value of freedom.
