Summary/Abstract: The author elaborates in his article the rising and development of the Constitutional court in the Socialistic Republic of Serbia through the period of twenty years. The Constitutional court of Serbia was established by the Constitution of the Socialistic Republic of Serbia of 1963, and started to work on 15th February, 1964. The presentation and analysis of the experience of costitutional courts as special constitutional and legal bodies, show that the introduction of these institutions represents an important factor in the constructing and improving of the political and legal system of socialistic self-management. The author pays special attention to the role and duties of the Constitutional court nowadays, because serious economic disturbances and difficulties which cause and aggravate problems in all spheres of economic and political life, require from the constitutional courts greater efforts and complex duties.
