Summary/Abstract: Of inexhaustible theological value, the hymnography of the Church was strongly promoted starting especially with the fourth Christian century, the Church being attentive to possible exaggerations and dangers that could arise. In this direction, the Saint Roman the Melodist also enjoys a special notoriety, which left a hymnographic treasure of great importance for shaping the cult and enriching theology. The present article is centered on a more special hymn of this holy author, "On Judas", which abounds in criticism and invective. As a result, he raised, over the centuries, questions regarding the polemical and harsh attitude of Roman the Melodist in relation to the fallen person of the apostle Judas who resorted to betraying the Master for money.
