Summary/Abstract: The expectation of a saviour is a common way of thinking for the same purpose in almost all religions and cultures, even if different names and features are expressed. This idea is one of the main elements of many religions and constitutes a very strong belief subject in various religions, mythological narratives and cultures. The idea of the saviour, which is a common phenomenon in religions, is expressed in religious traditions with different words and terms that do not have an etymological unity. This study aims to investigate the etymological origins of the terms expressing the expectation of the saviour seen in various religions, to make evaluations on the semantic link between them, to point out the similarities and differences, to establish relationships and carry out the comparisons. However, since it would be beyond the scope of the article to consider all religions, this study focuses on the saviour thought in six religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In the context of the eschatological ideas of these religions, it is desired to present a holistic view by revealing the etymological conceptual and semantic similarities and differences by using the holy writings and historical sources about the terms that express the saviour’s expectations. In this way, it is hoped to contribute to a better understanding by presenting an analysis of the terms that express the saviour belief between religions and cultures.
