Summary/Abstract: The grammatical gender of Russian substantives with a soft sign at the end not after sibilants is a “risk zones” not only for foreigners, but also for native speakers. The article describes the formation of a scientific and methodological concept of writing a soft sign at the end of nouns. The author identifies a number of noun models based on final letter combinations. In the author’s opinion, some models tend to a masculine or feminine nouns.
