Summary/Abstract: The lion, known as “the king of the forests”, has been used in the visual and verbal narratives of different cultures throughout the ages. The deep-rooted history of the lion symbol makes it possible to observe the changing beliefs and social structures through this symbol. Lion symbolism interacts with important breaks in human history, such as the emergence of cities and states and the subsequent industrialization process. In this study, which deals with the various usage areas and visual qualities of the lion in the historical process, the connections between current uses are examined through contemporary examples. In the journey of the lion symbol, which was transferred from myths to communities and from there to commercial institutions, the origins of the values it represents, and the common and divergent aspects of this system of values were analyzed. The reasons behind the usage of the lion figure by the current brands using the lion symbol have accompanied the historical analysis in question. Although its visual character varies across cultures and ages, it has been revealed that the lion symbol is accepted by many societies as a representation of power, leadership, superiority, and the desire to maintain these qualities. With this study, it has been revealed that the lion symbol, which stands out as a representation of courage, authority, and power, is a figure fought in some cultures and respected in some cultures. It has been concluded that the use of the lion symbol in current logos has retained the characteristic features attributed to the lion from history to the present and that despite the different visual results in contemporary logo designs, the choices made are fed from a common origin.
