Summary/Abstract: The transportation policy, which the Ottoman Empire brought to the agenda in the last period, also for me done of the modernization efforts of the New Turkish State. In the first years of the Republic, importance was given to urban transportation activities by the state, and paralel tothis, theconstruction of railway routes that were connected with each other was apriority. As the construction of the railway has many contributions to the cities, it also has an important place in terms of economic developments. Because, with a developed railway network, both agriculture and trade, which were stagnant in the cities, were revived. As a matter of fact providing the railway route in Balikesir also necessitated the change of the existing city. Growth and progress has been made in the city with in the scope of economy and trade, and the city’s strengthening in this regard has also been reflected in the newspapers.
