Summary/Abstract: This paper is devoted to the history of the Bosnian language during the Middle Ages, i.e. from the late 12th to the 15th centuries. It describes the most important innovations in the Bosnian medieval charters on the levels of phonology (e.g. development of the jers, reflexes of jat, vowel contractions, rhotacism) and inflectional morphology (e.g. the ending -ā of the genitive plural, declension of the numerals, the spread of -m in the 1. person singular). On the basis of the analysis of the mentioned processes it is possible to draw a more precise chronology of these innovations and to compare them with the development of Old Štokavian from other territories.
