Summary/Abstract: Borrowing words is one of the ways of enriching vocabulary of some language. Many of those loanwords in the Serbian language are adapted to language norms and recipients have no feeling that these are foreign words. These are lexemes that have long ago entered the language together with terms that they denote. Unlike borrowing from English, which is very common today, the subject of our interest are words that are result of centuries of Hungarian and Serbian contact. Therefore we will take this opportunity to deal with Hungarianisms as well as their degree of integration in the Serbian lexical system. The material will be taken from Dictionary of the Serbian language (jednotomni Rečnik srpskoga jezika) and analyzed with using thematic groups. We will also use electronic corpus as an indicator if these words were in active use, or became historicism.
