About vulgarisms in the Dictionary of Serbo-Croatian Literary Language of Matica Srpska

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents and analyzes the lexemes or the semantic realizations of some lexemes that are marked using the qualifier vulg. in the Dictionary of Serbo-Croatian Literary Language of Matica Srpska. The aim of this study is to determine the thematic and semantic groups of words which are marked with this qualifier (lexemes representing sexual acts and genitalias, physiology of digestion and secretion, a person of low moral values, etc.). We will consider which meanings of certain secondary lexemes have become vulgar and try to observe whether the connection of derivatives with obscenity of basic words is lost or kept.
