What is New in Serbian and Croatian Linguistic Contactology in the First Decade of the XXI Century?

Summary/Abstract: First, based on the relevant and available literature, we summarize the results of the research in linguistic contactology published in Serbia and Croatia in the first decade of the XXI century. The dominant theory and approach during this period were the theory of transfer and structural approach to the analysis of contactological units. One of the scientific activities was performing theoretical-practical tasks, such as a transcription of onomastic material. Secondly, the paper presents contribution of Serbian and Croatian researchers to the development of the contactological terminology. Instead of the traditional terms like loanwords, Anglicism, Russianism, transfonemization, semantic adaptation, etc, researchers use the terms contacteme, contact-lexeme, contact-phraseme, transderivation etc. belonging to the contactology theory of activation or mapping of latent elements and empty places. Third, we discuss directions of development of linguistic contactology
