Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to discuss selected radio dramas directed by Waldemar Modestowicz. I would also like to present an in-depth analysis and propose an interpretation of the selected radio plays. The analysis in the article focuses on a comparison of three radio dramas: Drugi pokój (written by Zbigniew Herbert especially for radio), Sprzątanie (also written especially for the radio – by Bartosz Wieczorek) and an adaptation of Esther Vilar’s text called Starość jest piękna.Despite the fact that these radio plays were created over many years, they touch upon similar themes. They deal with issues related to old age, loneliness, passing and death. The listener gets to know the heroes of these radio plays directly when their voices are present on the stage of the radio theatre or indirectly through the accounts of people appearing in radio plays. The recipient gets to know some heroes better and others only to a limited extent, for example, through scraps of information and objects that have remained after them. The place – a room or a flat – of the deceased tenant or tenant also plays an important role in the radio plays Drugi pokój and Sprzątanie. These places become signs of their former presence, as well as refuges and rooms where they live. Radio plays, different in terms of form, sounds, music and acting, take up important topics and raise universal problems.
