Summary/Abstract: The author is corresponding member of the Romanian Academy and professor of sociology at the University of Bucharest. The Romanian case stands for an object of study for political sociology. The identification of three types of hypothesis (typological, causal and empirical) facilitates the correlation of historical and social facts in an explanatory model accounting for the last fifty years evolution of Romania's ideological sphere.
