Summary/Abstract: The study restores what the author calls the "unknown Romanian contemporary history". The analysis of the social and political history covers the whole Communist regime in Romania, 1945-1989. Separate chapters are dedicated to every social class: peasantry, workers, intelligentsia. A special section is devoted to the Church. The author identifies the particular aspects of resistance, placing the historical experience within the communist system.
