Summary/Abstract: Starting from a fragment from Ulpian (D. 1.3.34), the present paper aims at presenting other ancient sources and explore if provincial custom was accepted as / considered a self-standing source of law or if it was necessary for it to be confirmed in contentious proceedings. The research also presents the relations between custom and law.
