Summary/Abstract: From a historian’s point of view, totalitarian regimes tend to be unique and are constantly related to the experience and culture of the countries in which they emerged. The author focuses his research on the possibility of comparing totalitarian regimes. He analy zes mostly the similitarities between the national socialist and the Soviet regimes. This approach may contribute to an in-depth knowledge of totalitarianism as a 20th century phenomenon and of the German and Soviet experiences in the period under study.
