Re-activating the public space with artistic installations

Summary/Abstract: The article explores methods for reconquering and regaining the public space for citizens, in the face of traffic and vehicular commuting functionality and to create local identity with architectural artistic installations. The topic`s complexity necessitates an interdisciplinary approach with perspectives from: urbanism, architecture, landscape architecture, art, culture, sociology and psychology. It analyzes a local situation, frequently met. Searches and recommends solutions, based on local identity. The case can be viewed globally, as it is a phenomenon largely met in cities and regions with fast economic rise. Treats urban space as finite and used by people who form communities, that want to reoccupy their spaces and re-form their communities in these places. The project was implemented in one of the workshops of the international program: Builder Method – Action-oriented education approaches in architecture, in Târgu Mureș.
