Talking Textiles in Contemporary Art

Summary/Abstract: An overview on the contemporary textile artists’ works dedicated to text in their creation is presented in this paper. We can discover various interpretations from purely aesthetic, naïve to conceptual representations. Both can be a personal expression and also a remark on society, and for sure for most observers, it will be provoking. We can claim that textile art is generally admonished as a strictly women’s job, a domestic labor, characterized as a primitive way of creation. But with this article I will try to show that textile art in our days, is more challenging, with more expanding possibilities, where the multiplicity of the techniques is combining with the fluidity of the classical barriers. Or, in some cases the choice of materials or techniques used are quite common, but the concept has a prolific perspective on contemporary art.
