Summary/Abstract: The “besieged stronghold” complex stemming from the “capitalist surrounding”, the civil war aftermath that caused enormous damage to the country’s economic and military might, drowning in additional complexity the psychosis of an impending foreign intervention, as well as the need for a tighter control over the domestic rivalries have altogether made Stalin impose severe austerity on the USSR economy and eventually turn it into a war one.
