Summary/Abstract: The shock of the Cold War caught the American society unprepared. The Communist Party of the United States, increasingly insignificant in point of membership and influence, was described as having the power of world communism, to inspire a society who wished to relish the results of the war that had just ended. The result was the beginning of a campaign which soon became hysteria.
