Summary/Abstract: The restoration of the Soviet governance in Bessarabia in 1944 meant the immediate development of lists of “kulaks” and persons who held office in the Romanian administrative structures: they were to be drafted into the Soviet military and sent to the front line, as cannon fodder for the occupant.
