Summary/Abstract: The Romanian army, although it was one of the first institutions subjected to communization, got involved in the attempt to protect Romanian cultural and political VIPs from the abusive action taken by the Soviet occupant. The cases of G.I. Brătianu and Ion Mihalache are typical. The General Staff officer who researched the status of the two politicians during World War Two proved they had been drafted as reserve officers, they had not volunteered.
