Violence against women and domestic violence in the case law of the European Court of Human Rights

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the ways and means used to combat domestic violence and their compliance with the content of the European Convention on Human Rights. It comments on the different aspects of this problem related to the right to life, the prohibition of torture, the right to respect for private and family life, the prohibition of discrimination. Some case studies from Bulgarian practice are also discussed.
