Summary/Abstract: This work deals with the preliminaries of the Romanian detention phenomenon, focusing on the 1944-1949 period, which was decisive both for the fate of Romania and for that of the political prisoners. Emphasis is placed on the relations between the communists in power and the anticommunist opposition, mostly considering the situation of those treated by the communist regime as “Iron Guards”.
