Summary/Abstract: This essay discusses, at the beginning of the third millennium, the importance of analogical methods of image printing in the Contemporary Fine Arts. The aim is to make aware of the well-defined place of Analog Graphic Arts in the dynamics of Visual Arts and their historical contribution to the imagistic emulation of the last six centuries. The Graphic Arts, represented in the visual arts by the permanent relevance of Engraving, fascinate by the alchemy with which a printing principle becomes pure Art. Without proposing a critical study, the essay is composed in an analytical exercise of attribution of universality to a field that has oscillated over time between utility and distinction, between Art and Craft, between uniqueness and multiplicity. The conclusion is that the functions of the Graphic Arts are permanent, the specificity of their language providing them with a well-defined path on the value axis of the Visual Arts. The study can also be suspected of a premonitory rhetoric at the dawn of Artificial Intelligence manifestations in art.
