Summary/Abstract: As it is well known, the works of the Danube-Black Sea Canal, initiated by the Romanian communist regime, which considered this megalomaniac project necessary, brought about a massive call for a work-force mainly made up of military men and detainees. The documents selected by the author of this study show the state of suspicion, as the regime paid attention to every "hostile attitude," or, worse, "sabotage" that could endanger the Canal works. The informative notes, the reports and the notes on the Canal works provide the image of a detention space, a carbon copy of the Soviet system.
