Summary/Abstract: The Romanian education was hit by the purge phenomenon in the 50s, which weakened its value and prestige, as the new regime imposed new values. The Bucharest University was among the first to feel the impact and the History Faculty was deeply changed because the history of this nation had to be radically altered and new professors had to be educated. The purge was a first step on the road to bereaving the education system of intellectuals and making it ideological. The purged professors went to communist jails to pay the price for their contribution to the development of the Romanian culture and civilization, which were no longer necessary.
